Working at Interference Pattern for Passion Pictures and Google Spotlight, we were tasked with full environment builds of the Spirit House featured in the Gorillaz 360 music video for Saturnz Barz.
Crazy project to be involved in, I’ve been a Gorillaz fan since I was a teenager so was stoked to get to work on a video for them. In particular, this video was being produced in 360-degrees as part of the Google Spotlight Stories platform, meaning we essentially had to treat it like a game engine build (and all the constraints that entailed).
Environments were Maya (modelling) and Substance Painter (texturing), and we prototyped the build in Unity to ensure everything would work correctly in a 360 context. I ended up with sole ownership of the disugsting bathroom and bath, which ended up a bit of a meme online when the final video came out.
